Diabetes Motion was founded in 2014 by Dr. Sheri Colberg, one of the world's leading experts on diabetes and exercise.
The mission of Diabetes Motion is to provide practical guidance about blood glucose management to anyone who wants to be physically active with diabetes.
Whether you’re new to exercise or a sports enthusiast, diabetes can get in the way of being active. This site will guide you on what to do, how to do it and, most importantly, how to manage your diabetes safely and effectively for exercise.
The more than 422 million people who suffer from diabetes worldwide are lucky to have Dr. Sheri Colberg in their corner. She is a highly influential opinion leader on lifestyle management to control and prevent disease. She has shaped exercise and nutrition recommendations adopted by diabetes and other professional organizations, published a variety of books, lectured extensively, consulted for many, and conducted research studies that are influencing current health care.
To date, she has written 12 books, 35 book chapters, and over 450 articles. Her most popular books include The Athlete's Guide to Diabetes (a fully updated 2019 edition of Diabetic Athlete’s Handbook), Diabetes & Keeping Fit for Dummies, 50 Secrets of the Longest Living People with Diabetes, and The Science of Staying Young. Others include Exercise and Diabetes: A Clinician’s Guide to Prescribing Physical Activity (American Diabetes Association, 2013), and The Diabetes Breakthrough.
A graduate of Stanford University, UC Davis, and UC Berkeley, she is a professor emerita (retired) of exercise science from Old Dominion University and former adjunct professor of internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. In 2016, she was honored by the American Diabetes Association with the ADA Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award. With over five decades’ worth of personal experience with diabetes, she is an avid recreational exerciser who advocates healthy lifestyles for all.
